About

WELCOME TO OUR JUNGLE.

Come on in, just take your shoes off.

We are Eric and Ryan Johnson, the Sons of Strength, and we believe in fitness.

Yes, we’re brothers and New York City based personal trainers (personally, we prefer the term strength coaches – so let’s stick with that).

Pretty much, we do everything together. From giving a lift off as workout partners to sparring each other in Muay Thai (talk about the little bro getting revenge on all those years of our youth) to having the best cheat meal extravaganzas, we’re there as both competitors and sidekicks to each other.

And we love every second of it.

Despite our similarities, we both experienced separate routes to bring us to this same road.  Driven by different motivations, we’ve had to overcome individual struggles and learn our own way.

So, we were not born as Sons of Strength. It’s a title we had to earn.

Now, it’s your turn.

We’ve had the pleasure to work with individuals from all walks of life with all different goals. From feature films to wedding bells, we’ve prepared Billboard artists to step on the stage, champions to enter the ring, and actors to be featured on the big screen (most of the time, shirtless). Just check out some of their testimonials here!

Beyond the trenches, we or our work has been featured on the Huffington Post, New York Daily News, T-Nation.com, Stack Magazine, and EliteFTs.com.

Now, we want to help you redefine your “fine” and become the best version of your self. And we believe it starts with finding your strength.

See, strength comes in all forms. But we want to give you an advantage on the physical side. Let us help you transform your body and in return, revamp your mind.

Sons of Strength is here to guide you on your journey by:

  • Providing you with the best evidence-based advice to cut through all the fitness industry noise and garbagé (that’s a French way of saying trash).
  • Learn from our mistakes over the years (yes, we bought our first kettlebell to solely perform upright rows…shameful, we know).
  • Scratch our own itch and experiment on ourselves (and sometimes, our clients) to get real world results. We believe the best way to learn something is to experience it first hand.
  • Find a way to enjoy what you’re doing. Whether it’s during your gym sessions or having a meal, a smile should be on your face. Life is too short. That doesn’t mean, it’s all going to be easy. Like Rocky Balboa told ya, “This world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows…”. Hard work is a prerequisite.
  • Spark your passion, discover your motivation, and execute with purpose and a sense of urgency.

Along our path, we have had some unbelievable influences and mentors.

Our first exposure to the gym was picking up our Uncle Walter from “The Fitness Edge”. Even though he has Down Syndrome, it does not define nor limit him. Not even from getting a workout in! Actually it’s quite the contrary as he lives an extraordinary life, doesn’t let his circumstance act as a crutch, and inspires us that you can always overcome and prevail, no matter the cards you have been dealt.

Growing up, we weren’t always the biggest, strongest, or fastest kids. Instead, we had to try harder, work smarter, and find alternate routes to get what we wanted. Our deep desires to succeed, first on the football field, lead us to ask a close family friend for help. That was the first and most important step: asking for help!!!

After hours of learning to push past the brink, grinding out every set with our first grunts, and a little teasing in this basement, a rare relationship grew with every workout that left your knees wobbling down the stairs to your car. Our coach and training partner became more than a mentor, but a hero in our eyes.

Tony may be gone but we like to think his legend lives on every time we pick up a dumbbell. His voice still whispers in our ears to get that last rep and we have come to live by his code: “If it were easy, everyone would do it.”

We want to be your mentors and hopefully inspire you the same way. Sons of Strength will show you the light and pass you the torch so you can set it on FIRE!

In essence, we can all become Sons of Strength. Are you up for the challenge?
