Legend has it the power trio combined forces after this meeting. Only a table separated the one, most coveted free agent and his entourage with the interested team’s executives. The sport of professional basketball had never experienced the hype behind this player’s decision going into the next season.

The team’s president was never a big fan of meetings with so many people. You could say he liked to keep them on a more personal level.

Ignoring the large dividing table and others in the room, Pat Riley crossed sides and approached the back of Lebron James’ seat. He set the tone of that meeting with a mantra that would bring the infamous “talents to South Beach” along with two championships and the making of a dynasty.

Love it or hate it; have to respect it.

What could Riley possible whisper into Lebron’s ear? Without letting anyone else in on their little secret, those words would be:

“The main thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing.” (As he showed off his championship ring)

The ring's the thing.

The ring’s the thing.

Now it’s our turn to whisper a few words of wisdom into your ear.

What are your goals?

What do you want out of your time at the gym, your work, your life?

Take as long as you want to really decide.

Physically write them down. Your iPhone’s notes doesn’t count. With pen and paper and place them somewhere you can see them every morning you wake up and every night before you go to sleep.

Now let’s keep the main thing, the main thing. In any thing you do, from the gym to your career, you should have a focus, a purpose, a goal, a destination.

Establish it. Do everything in your power to align your actions with your desired outcome. Move your chest pieces. If you want gain strength or lose weight, you should have a program specifically designed for just that. Now it doesn’t have to be your end game but it has to be the next best step.

Be critical. Make sacrifices. Stay consistent.

Complete your goal. Along the way, you may have to reevaluate your goals. Do so with your eyes fixed on the prize. Resist the temptation to switch to a new flashy program that you see in a magazine or that your buddies are doing this week.

Don’t be the Jack of all trades and master of none.

Become legendary. Be a Sons of Strength.

Eyes on the prize.
