Take a moment. Look into the mirror, the same one you face every, single morning. What do you want out of this life – the one we only have one shot at? What are your dreams, your desires? What’s on your bucket list? Have you checked off anything lately? Ask yourself, are you more destination or journey?

Standing in line, the top approached much quicker than expected. My heart started to race as adrenaline poured into my veins along with a sense of uncertainty. Here I was, ready to finally take the plunge and fulfill one of my childhood fantasies. My first check off on my bucket list. Only a few fearless individuals stood between myself and the Leap of Faith. With each step up the Mayan Temple at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, I inched closer to the sixty foot, near vertical drop into a pool of sharks. Intense, I know.

As I anxiously waited, an uneasiness overcame my emotions. I was here, about to finally do something I had been waiting for over twenty years and it was finally within reach. Those last few moments up the steps of the Mayan Temple, I paused and noticed the beautiful view of the entire Paradise Island, from the jaw dropping architecture of the Atlantis resort to the stunning horizon as the blue ocean met the day’s clear skies. For a majority of my time waiting in line, I missed how phenomenal the surrounding environment was. With my mindset focused on only achieving my desire, I could have easily overlooked how I got there. I could have forgotten all about the journey and my appreciation for it.

Once I finally reached the destination and took the leap of faith, the experience flew by within seconds (my eyes may have been closed for half of it…), but it was remarkable and one I will never forget. That sixty foot drop may seem like a small feat but having the courage to achieve something, no matter how big or small, and to gain the courage to know you can do anything you set your mind to has opened the door to allow me to conquer one item off my bucket list at a time.

Life isnt about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. It starts with a goal, a dream, a destination in mind and a single step towards fulfilling your desire. Set your goals and have a clear, precise idea of where you want to go. Actualize your vision. However, don’t be afraid to take another route to get there. What if there is a detour in the road? Be ready to adapt and make changes on the fly. Create your own path since we will all live our own journey, individual to us.

Be sure to ease off the gas pedal and enjoy the scenery surrounding you. The less you focus on the end result, the quicker it will come. Savor the moments of greatness. Don’t be afraid to enjoy the process, even if it includes failure. Embrace it and learn from it. Don’t let fear get in your way. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. You still have a question to answer…are you more destination or journey?
